What is distant projects?

Here you’ll find the latest digital projects from Scotty Wotherspoon, a UK-based creative with over 30 years’ in advertising, design, and the arts. He has been described as 'one of the leading creatives in the AI space'.

It’s a playground for ideas, where traditional craft meets cutting-edge technology. A space to explore creative trends in generative AI and discover how it’s reshaping the way we communicate visually.

Artists bio

Scotty explores the meeting point between traditional art and modern creative tools.

His work mixes humour and a fragmented nostalgia; the process is open and experimental — part chance, part intention, unplanned yet purposeful, —much like life itself. By combining traditional craft techniques with photography and digital tools such as MidJourney and Photoshop, he folds the handmade and the machine-made into a single dialogue creating work that feels both surreal and sincere, raising questions about authorship and what it means to be authentic in these modern times.

'Fabrications so magnetic, so mesmerising; they would make Gary Kasparov fall back in love with computers - and invite Deep Blue around for a couple of brewskies over another game.'

The point is to enjoy losing one’s self in the labyrinth of images. Like Gaston Bachelard, Scotty understands the dialectic of rising and falling—the interplay between lightness and depth. He follows balloons into the sky but also ventures into caverns of clay and stone.

In one work, a golem emerges, looming from earth as if newly discovered or freshly imagined. A tiny figure in the foreground—perhaps Scotty himself—stands in awe, or maybe in quiet boredom, gazing on what his imagination has summoned.

The creation process

Every image on this site is a kind of fiction— they are false memories created by blending traditional crafts with machine learning and generative technologies

The work of other artists will never be used at any stage of the process. Modern technologies can uncover incredible creative pathways, but never at the expense of another's ideas or the creativity that keeps our community alive.
